A diploma with distinction from Dakshini started her off on a lifework of Rabindra Sangeet. She was a regular artiste and performer with All India Radio and HMV. Her dream of propagating Rabindra Sangeet led her to teach initially from her home and later through Shahana which she co-founded in 1975.

She has an indepth knowledge of all facets of Rabindra Sangeet and is the guiding force of Shahana.

"Indrani Mashi", as she is lovingly called, has taken Rabindra Sangeet beyond the confines of Bengali speakers by teaching people of all linguistic communities. Her students over the decades have spread her love for Rabindra Sangeet to all corners of the earth. The students include the likes of Kavita Krishnamoorthy and Chhaya Ganguly.
